| Canadian rock legends April Wine are set to again 'Say
Hello' to Tillsonburg in their return to Norma
Jeans on Saturday. They are known for a variety of Canadian classic rock station staples, including "Bad Side of the Moon", "I Like to Rock", "Oowatanite", "Sign of the Gypsy Queen", "Roller" and "Just Between You and Me". "I love playing with the band," said guitarist and backup singer Brian Greenway. "It's like a family, although the family keeps changing. It's a job that I love to do and I feel lucky to do it after all these years." The group was formed in 1969 in Halifax. Lead singer Myles Goodwyn has been a constant in a band that has seen a number of lineup changes over the years. Greenway joined the band in 1977 and has been with them ever since. He played in a group called Mashmakhan before joining April Wine. "Some say I brought a harder edged sound to the band," Greenway said, "me being more of a blues-based player. We used to be an acoustic medley, and now we have a soft part of the show where we play 'Fast Train' and 'Lady Run, Lady Hide' and lately that's been my favourite section of the show." The band was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame last April. Greenway said that it was nice to have been acknowledged by his fellow musicians. "It had a calming effect on me," Greenway said. "The sort of feeling you get after reaching a destination after travelling a long time." The band is currently working on a set of albums called the Vile Series. They hope to start recording soon and plan to do it using older eight track tape equipment. "Analog tape gives a warmth that I feel is missing in the digital world," he said. "These songs will be anything we want to do, anything we ever wanted to record by us or somebody and just have fun doing it like we used to back when we first started." |
